Due to recent spam problems on our forums we decided to take the plunge and upgrade from phpBB2 to phpBB3. phpBB3 has got improved security measures to help combat the spam problem, as well as better collaboration features.

I was also pleasantly surprised at the ease of the upgrade. The phpBB team have put a really neat interface that does all the heavy lifting for one. The only problem I did run into was that utf-8 characters where not displaying correctly after the upgrade. Using the RTFM trick that is often overlooked, I spotted a section called "Common conversion problems" in the installation. Following the instructions in the paragraph start "Broken non-latin characters" solved my problem, and we where set to go.
