KnowledgeTree Hot Folders and Kofax Capture Release Script

Earlier today we announced the availability of a KnowledgeTree Release Script for Kofax Capture. As discussed in our announcement, the script outputs processed documents and their properties (metadata) in a format accepted by KnowledgeTree Hot Folders. The result is an end-to-end solution for document capture and management. Scan your paper-based invoices in at one end, let Kofax's OCR, barcode recognition and other imaging technologies extract the properties, and output everything to a secure, and centralized document repository for processing and storage.

KnowledgeTree Hot Folders is a simple, high-volume integration interface for third party applications, such as back-office document imaging workflow applications and fax servers. It is a Windows service designed to monitor and automatically process content copied or moved to a specified Windows file share.

KnowledgeTree already provides a number of easy-to-use interfaces for importing content but there are two distinct advantages to using KnowledgeTree Hot Folders:

• It is designed to automatically detect and upload new content from one file share, i.e., uploads do not have to be triggered manually - making it a great interface for integrating processes which do not require human intervention.
• KnowledgeTree Hot Folders accepts and processes document properties, specified using an XML payload. Every document can be uploaded with a companion XML property file, generated in a format specified by the Hot Folders XML schema. This mechanism allows for the easy transfer of document properties from third-party applications to KnowledgeTree.

Hot Folders provides a perfect interface for integration with applications such as Kofax Capture. The Release Script can output captured properties, such as invoice numbers, customer names, document ids and versions in the XML format specified by Hot Folders. These properties are then automatically captured and saved as document property fields in KnowledgeTree.

The Hot Folders XML schema allows the specification of a number of useful properties including storage location, version number, custom fields and workflow among others. These properties can be used to automatically file content in the correct location in KnowledgeTree and even kick-start new approval or review workflows.
